Struggling with Infertility? Here’s How Chiropractic can Help

According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 6 million women have trouble getting or staying pregnant. That’s equivalent to about 1 in 10 women. Although it is not often discussed, infertility affects more women than you may think or even be aware of. Infertility is known to be linked to many different causes including improper nervous system functionality, poor nutrition, lack of exercise, high levels of stress, and other poor lifestyle choices such as smoking, drinking, and using drugs. Due to this infertility, many women seek In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Did you know that one cycle IVF treatment can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000? That’s not including the many medications that are required to be taken with treatment cycles as well. It’s no secret that very few people have the amount of money required to seek these treatments, and even then alternatives can cost just as much.
Did you know that chiropractic can help treat infertility? It’s true, and it doesn’t cost anywhere near as much as IVF, adoption, or surrogacy. Additionally, those women who do have babies after receiving chiropractic treatments carry their own child. Obviously being able to have a child in any way is a gift, but there’s an even greater satisfaction behind being able to finally carry your own child to full term after months, or even years of trying for a child.
So, how does it work? Well, firstly, Chiropractic treatments will focus on what could be the root cause of the infertility. Is it lack of exercise, obesity, poor nutrition, high stress, or hormone imbalance? Does the person smoke, or drink often? Your chiropractor will ask these kinds of questions and first focus on treating the culprit for the infertility. This may range anywhere from nutrition and lifestyle counseling, to acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments. Although it’s called nutrition and lifestyle counseling, it isn’t the same sit on the couch and spew your entire life story kind of counseling. Nutrition and lifestyle counseling consists of educating patients on proper nutrition and exercise, and creating a plan for them to follow. If the patient smokes, treatments may be set in place to help them stop smoking. This can be done through Auriculotherapy, a form of acupuncture used on the ear to target the brain and relieve withdrawal symptoms. If the patient is often stress, your chiropractor will work with you on stress-relieving techniques.
Often times, improving the overall lifestyle of the patient will significantly increase fertility. Although, in some cases, infertility is due to a hormone imbalance and/or a dysfunctioning nervous system. For these, there are multiple different treatment options. For balancing hormones and restoring the body’s natural ovulation and menstruation cycle, acupuncture can be used. Once the body’s hormones and cycles are regulated, chiropractic adjustments will be added to the treatment plan. These adjustments will help restore the functionality of the body’s nervous system. This could also be done through acupuncture as well. Additionally, supplements may be prescribed to increase the body’s functionality.
Unlike IVF, using chiropractic to help increase fertility is a natural way to achieve pregnancy. Chiropractic will also treat all of the root causes for infertility in addition to treatments to increase fertility. These treatments come with less stress of IVF treatments as well. You won’t be needing to take out a loan or drain your savings to receive treatment. Additionally, chiropractic for infertility is a much less vigorous treatment than IVF. IVF can definitely be a great treatment option for some, and can even be used in conjunction with chiropractic.
